So this was a recipe I found on Pinterest years ago but for the life of me I cannot find the original pin. So I Google’d it and found the video from Huffington Post. HP’s video is a modified version of Broke Ass Gourmet’s recipe. So what inspired me to try it?
- It looked delicious
- I already had all the ingredients
- I was about to save myself $4
- I can drink this year round – again, think of all the $$$ you’re saving!
- Less sugar than the Starbucks version, in fact the only amount of sugar is what you add yourself, if at all.
Sound like a good idea?
What You’ll Need:
- Coffee – prepared anyway you like it
- 2/3 cup of milk in a lidded mason jar
- 2 teaspoons of honey
- 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
- small mixing bowl and spoon
- Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Instructions:
- Brew the coffee with the water in a regular coffee maker, French press or drip cone.
- While the coffee brews, stir the pumpkin pie spice into the honey or agave nectar until completely blended. Set aside.
- Vigorously shake milk for 2 minutes until frothy
- Remove the metal lid
- Microwave milk on high for 15-20 seconds, or until milk is warm
- Pour coffee in to serving cup
- Add Pumpkin Spice Mixture, stir until completely dissolved
- Add all the milk and froth
- A dash of additional pumpkin pie spice or some ground cinnamon on top is a nice touch.
- Top with cinnamon sticks (optional)
My thoughts about the recipe:
- It’s not bad. I wanted mine to be more “pumpkin-y” so I doubled the amount of honey and pumpkin spice, and added in a teaspoon of sugar. With this change I liked it a LOT more.
- My arm was a little bit tired from shaking up the milk but the froth was a very welcome touch.
- If I want to “dress it up” I’ll add some “Reddi Wip” and a dash of pumpkin pie spice on top.
- I have shared this recipe and definitely make this over going to Starbucks.
- I’ve seen other recipes that use actual pumpkin but that’s not something I keep in my pantry year round. So this was a great alternative.
Have you heard of this recipe before? Let me know if you try it yourself and what you thought! 🙂

I love me some pumpkin…any time of year. That graphic about what is in the Starbucks drink makes me re-consider the reasons for my addiction to their beverages!

Ok I admit it, Im a Starbucks addict. Although I love the sound of their seasonal drinks, the heavy calories (and price) put me off so thanks for sharing this idea of a Pumpkin Spice Latte as it will be fun to try a homemade version.

It all depends on what coffee maker you use if it doesn’t have metal. Other than that. You have made a nickel free delicious coffee drink. Thanks for sharing.
